2023 Social Media Trends

Social media marketing is an ongoing challenge; trends are turning over faster and faster. It is no longer the “fashion trend of the year” or the “yearlong 2023 eyebrows” or the song that is a #1 hit in the entire industry.

So it's hard to predict what will be popular in 2023, but here are some trends that might be seen on social media in the next year:

1. Authenticity over virality

Authenticity is more important than virality. Content should be meaningful and valuable, rather than just being created to grab attention. Good content should be focused on providing helpful and exciting information that resonates with your audience. When content is created with this focus, it has a better chance of becoming viral due to its natural appeal. This aspect of content has grown both for brands and content creators. For brands, you see all-size models, the no makeup looks, the stories, the background, the fewer photoshopped advertisements. For creators, you see the growth of storytelling, families, the “raw side of thighs” the how-tos and so much more.

While follower counts are still impressive, people care more about socially helpful success and community building. As a brand, make sure that your customer service is impeccable and maintain the same tone through all of your channels.

2. More interactive content

Social media users may demand more interactive content, such as virtual reality, videos, and live streaming. The rapid success of platforms like Tik Tok and Twitch speaks for itself. Videos are everything when it comes to creating content. People’s attention spans have been shrinking more and more, especially for younger viewers.

Make sure when creating video content for social media that you remain authentic, and showcase the how of your service or product. Don’t know where to start? We have our Tik Tok and Reels planning/ editing services.

3. Social media has become a search engine

Social media has become such an important part of our lives, that it has evolved into a search engine of sorts. People can now easily find information, learn how to do things, discover products, services, and more. Did you ever think you could search, “how to scrape a popcorn ceiling” on Tik Tok or look for “vegan air fryer recipes” on Instagram? These were things that people normally searched on Google, Youtube, or Pinterest, but now their first choice may be a different app. It has become a powerful tool for businesses and individuals, and it's clear that it's here to stay.

4. The boom of Creator Economy

We have been saying that influencer marketing will continue to play a more important role in marketing campaigns. Companies of every size have done it this year, working with influencers to help drive brand awareness and online sales.

In 2023 we will see more brands embrace more word-of-mouth marketing, using social media as a vehicle to source user-generated content (UGC) from customers and creators.

This year marketers have seen UGC drive 29% higher web conversions compared to campaigns or websites that do not leverage UGC. For brands, it’s a no-brainer to use the treasure of real-life voices. If you are a brand, make sure to check out our campaign services.

While these predictions are made based on the changes we have seen in the last couple of months, it is incredibly important for you to stay updated with technology, news, and trends. At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that social media is a dynamic and competitive environment. What worked before isn’t guaranteed to generate the same results. But take advantage of these trends in your own way and plan to stay ahead of the game.
